Why this test exists

We're getting a high volume of applications and portfolios only tell part of the story. This role runs at a fast pace with deliverables every other day, so we test for the two things that matter most: speed and finishing.

This test is unpaid, and we've designed it to respect your time. Everything in it uses fictional details (fake artists, fake date) so that nothing you make can ever be used by us. It is an evaluation only. If that doesn't sit right with you, no hard feelings, and thanks for applying.

The brief

Build a mini design packet for
"The Spirit & Life Experience"

Treat this like a real client kickoff: a large-scale, culture-forward live event. You're setting the visual direction, then proving it works in three different flyer executions.

1Design Direction (1 page)

A single page showing how you'd approach the event's visual identity:

  • Event fonts: 2–3 typefaces and where each gets used (headline / accent / body)
  • Event colors: your palette with hex codes
  • Mood & texture: a few words or swatches on the treatment. Grain, halftone, gradients, photo style, whatever defines the look

2Three Flyers

Same event, three different creative approaches. All 4:5 (1080 × 1350).

Festival Style

Big lineup-poster energy. Headliners, supporting acts, bold type hierarchy. Think major festival announcement.

Relatable Style

Feels like a moment, not a poster. Warm, photo-led, speaks to the audience like a friend. The flyer someone shares to their story because it feels like them.

Out of the Box

Your wild card. Break the format. Surprise us. The only rule is the required text below.

Every flyer must include

  • The event name: "Spirit & Life '26"
  • The theme: "By God's Mercy"

Everything else is up to you: use fake artist names (please do, it protects you: we can never use work with fictional lineups), any date, and a fake or real city/venue. Use the photos we've provided below as your imagery.

The bar

Finishing is everything

We compete with top event brands, and the difference at that level is finishing: intentional type treatment, clean photo integration, deliberate texture, and exports that look premium on a phone at full brightness. Study the sample designs below before you start.

Be honest with yourself: if your exported flyers don't reach the level of finish in the samples, this role won't be a fit, and we'd rather you keep your 48 hours.
